July in the Macedon Ranges is a winter wonderland, and there's plenty of reason to get out and enjoy it. This month brings winter school holidays, open gardens, a couple of standout exhibitions, and a handful of events worth planning around. The Trading Post is open seven days for coffee, breakfast, lunch, and takeaway supplies whenever you need a pit stop.

Here's what's on across the Mount and surrounding area this July.

Winter School Holidays — 27 June – 12 July

The Victorian school holidays run through to Sunday 12th July, making this a good month to bring the kids up the Mount. Most of the family-friendly activity this month is clustered right here in Mount Macedon, so you can cover a lot of ground without travelling far.

Duneira Estate, Mount Macedon

Duneira Estate on Officer Lane, a short drive from the Trading Post, is a standout destination on the Mount this winter.

Nature Journaling for Kids — Tuesday 7 July, 10am – 11:30am

A school holiday morning session for children aged 8–13. Kids join a guided walk around the Duneira gardens, collecting leaves, flowers, moss, and chestnuts, then return to the stables to draw and paint their finds in a nature journal they take home. $30 per child. Bookings essential.

Perfect pairing: grab breakfast at the Trading Post from 7am, then head to Duneira in time for the 10am start. Ticket link here.

Historical House & Art Collection Guided Tours — Daily, 11am & 1:30pm

Running throughout winter, the Duneira house tours take visitors through the historic 1870s Italianate Victorian homestead and Stuart Stoneman's extraordinary private art collection. $25 per person, or $50 including Devonshire tea in the Stables. Children under 16 free.

The Suetonius Society — Wednesdays & Saturdays, 11:30am – 1:30pm

A free, open gathering for readers, writers, and thinkers in Duneira's historic library or drawing room, followed by Devonshire tea and conversation. No booking required.

Friday Night Gin & Jazz — Friday 31 July, 6:30pm – 9pm

Live jazz in the historic salon at Duneira Estate, with gin cocktails from Travelling While Standing Still, wines from Hanging Rock Winery, and local charcuterie. Emma Gilmartin performs on 31st July. Tickets via Humanitix.

Forest Glade Gardens, Mount Macedon — Open Daily

One of Victoria's finest cool-climate gardens, Forest Glade on Mafeking Road is open daily through winter. Entry by donation.

Hanging Rock Llama Treks — By Appointment

Hanging Rock Llama Treks operate by appointment through the reserve, a memorable outing for families. Book ahead as spots are limited.
